poem // in due time

in due time, i will uncover
the purpose i was made to discover.
but for now, i’ll stay hidden under the covers —
pretending that the world is kind.

in due time, i will admit
that for this world, i am not a perfect fit.
but for now, i’ll stand tall bearing every hit —
pretending that the world is kind.

in due time, i will understand
that you are either in the audience or in the band.
but for now, i’ll freeze – not knowing whether or not I’m that grand —
pretending that the world is kind.

but theĀ problemĀ with pretending that the world is kind
is that its really only a trick of the mind —
it’s a lie, that grabs your soul and binds,
latching onto the very first glimmer of hope that it finds.
