poem // shine

i think i see you now —
face to face in time.
with eyes of fire, yet kind
yearning to stop the madness, to remind —
that you’ve already broken the chains that bind.

yet day after day, i choose to retie
the anchor that keeps me rooted in lies.
i think i obey, i long to abide
but deeper and deeper i sink to the enemy’s cries.

oh but raise up your head, oh my soul —
tell your heart what you’ve left untold.
break away from what keeps you in society’s mold —
for our future is bright – your future is bold.

you have a strong brain and a wild heart —
and your life is His greatest work of art.
these dark days are shadows, don’t give up the fight —
for in the presence of shadows, means the present of light.

i think i see you now —
face to face in time.
with eyes of fire that shine,
because they are looking right into mine.
